This 2-hour musical multimedia slideshow lecture is offered by Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), a branch of the Extended University of Cal State University, Channel Islands. You must be at least 50 years old to apply. There are no other membership or enrollment costs or requirements beyond the $15 lecture fee.

Course Description: It was the fall of 1964 when college freshman Lanny Kaufer – imbued with a topical mix of confidence and naiveté – found himself in the rural, segregated South, striving to register African-Americans to vote. Join Kaufer as he tells firsthand about his experience with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s SCOPE Project – a voter registration civil rights initiative. Follow the “soundtrack” of the era as you learn more about the goals and accomplishments of the project in this multimedia presentation.
